Itinerary

Day 1 - Kangerlussuaq Havn

Kangerlussuaq, Greenland: The name 'Kangerlussuaq' means 'Big Fjord' in the local Kalaallisut language. This settlement, home to approximately 500 people, is situated in western Greenland on flat land at the head of a fjord of the same name. Known as Greenland's largest commercial airport, Kangerlussuaq's economy is largely dependent on this air transportation hub and tourism. The surrounding rugged lands are home to terrestrial Arctic fauna, including muskoxen, caribou, and Gyrfalcons.

Day 2 - Sisimiut (Holsteinsborg)

Sisimiut, Greenland: Located just north of the Arctic Circle, Sisimiut is the furthest northern town in Greenland where the port remains free of ice during winter. It also marks the southernmost town with sufficient snow and ice for dogsledding in winter and spring, a primary means of winter transportation for centuries. With habitation stretching back approximately 4,500 years, modern Sisimiut stands as the largest business centre in northern Greenland, experiencing rapid growth with its thriving industrial base led by commercial fishing.

Day 3 - Qikiqtarjuaq

Day 6 - Akpatok Island

Akpatok Island, Nunavut, Canada: As the largest island in Ungava Bay, Akpatok is named after the Thick-billed Murre, which nests here in vast numbers, marking it as a Canadian Important Bird Area. The distinctiveness of the island is emphasized by its steep limestone cliffs rising dramatically from the sea. Although uninhabited now, remnants of a Dorset settlement can be found on its southern end, and the island is frequented by polar bears, seals, and walrus.

Day 7 - Torngat Mountains National Park

Torngat Mountains National Park, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada: Situated at the eastern tip of Labrador, this park features dramatic mountains often likened to the 'Eastern Rocky Mountains'. Covering 9,700 km², it is dotted with remnants of cirque glaciers and boasts Saglek Fjord's striking geological features. The park's name, believed to originate from Torngarsoak, carries a rich Inuit heritage with polar bears and herds of caribou migrating through its breathtaking landscapes.
