Itinerary

Day 1 - Dover

Dover, England: Known as the gateway to England, Dover receives millions of visitors each year due to its status as the ferry capital of the world and the second busiest cruise port in the UK. The region, known as White Cliffs Country, boasts a rich heritage. Within the walls of the town’s iconic castle, over 2,000 years of history await exploration, while the town’s museum houses the Dover Bronze Age Boat, the world’s oldest known sea-going vessel. Dover’s cliffs, which offer a comforting view for today's cross-channel travellers, also served as the control centre for the Dunkirk evacuation in 1940.

Day 3 - Bergen

Bergen, Norway: Nestled among mountains and glistening fjords, Bergen’s waterside location is nothing short of spectacular. The city's medieval roots are evident in the colourful waterfront buildings of the historic Bryggen, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that showcases its vibrant trading past. Our diverse range of excursions reveals Bergen’s multifaceted charm, including visits to the fish market, meandering through narrow cobbled streets, and admiring views of the city from Mt Fløyen. For those familiar with Bergen, tours venture further afield, while within 300 yards of the main piers lies the Fortress Museum (Fesningsmuseum), offering intriguing exhibitions related to World War II.

Day 4 - Skjolden

Skjolden, Norway: Discover the secluded island of Skjoldungen, surrounded by a breathtaking fjord. The landscape is a stunning fusion of towering mountains, glacial valleys, rocky outcrops, tundra, and willow forests, offering an unforgettable panorama. In this untouched environment, it is common to spot bearded seals, orcas, and a variety of birds, including the common redpoll, northern wheatear, and common raven.

Day 5 - Flåm

Flåm, Norway: Flåm, nestled deep in the fjord country, offers incredible scenery characterised by towering cliffs and cascading waterfalls. The Flåm Railway, one of the steepest standard gauge lines in the world, provides a scenic journey through dramatic landscapes. Moreover, visitors can hike or bike along the picturesque trails, explore local Nordic culture, and enjoy the serene atmosphere of this charming village.

Day 6 - Stavanger

Stavanger, Norway: Facing the Atlantic Ocean, Stavanger rose to prosperity in the 19th century as a fishing port. While other towns contended with an economic downturn as the fishing industry waned, Stavanger thrived by branching into shipbuilding and eventually the oil industry. This blend of industries has created a city of contrasts – a modern skyline of high-rise buildings alongside a historic centre with cobbled streets and wooden houses. The city centre is the birthplace of Alexander Kielland, a notable 19th-century Norwegian novelist. Stavanger Cathedral, built in 1125, is an impressive medieval structure that remains unchanged since its construction. From Stavanger, one can explore the striking blue waters of Lysefjord or visit Hafrsfjord, the site of an important Viking battle led by King Harald for the unification of Norway. For a more independent exploration, visiting the interesting Petroleum Museum is worthwhile.

Day 8 - Dover

Dover, England: Returning to Dover, the gateway to England, visitors are once again introduced to this storied location, renowned for being the ferry capital of the world and the second busiest cruise port in the UK. The White Cliffs Country is steeped in history, offering over 2,000 years to explore within the town's legendary castle. The town's museum uniquely features the Dover Bronze Age Boat, the oldest known sea-going vessel. Today’s visitors, much like those from the 1940 Dunkirk evacuation, find the iconic cliffs a welcome sight.
