Discovery of the Cultural and Natural Wonders of the Adriatic and Beyond

Day 1 - Venice

Venice, Italy: Venice is a city unlike any other. Regardless of how often you've seen it in photos and films, the real thing is more dreamlike than you could imagine. With canals where streets should be, water shimmers everywhere. The marvellous palaces and churches reflect centuries of history in what was a wealthy trading centre between Europe and the Orient. Getting lost in the narrow alleyways is an essential part of exploring Venice, but you're almost sure to end up in Piazza San Marco at some point, where tourists and locals gather for a coffee or an aperitif.

Day 2 - Rab Island

Rab Island, Croatia: Rab Island is a haven of natural beauty and historical charm, known for its sandy beaches and lush greenery. The island, with its medieval old town, is steeped in rich history, offering visitors a chance to explore its ancient churches and quaint cobbled streets. The local cuisine is a delightful mix of Mediterranean flavours, best enjoyed al fresco, with a stunning view of the sparkling Adriatic Sea.

Day 3 - Primosten and Split

Primosten, Croatia: Primosten is famed for its stunning beaches and the picturesque streets of its old town, which lies on a small peninsula. This charming coastal village is ideal for both relaxation and exploration, with beautiful views of the Adriatic Sea.

Split, Croatia: Split's ancient core is incredibly spectacular and unusual, certainly warranting a visit. The heart of the city is set within the walls of Roman emperor Diocletian's retirement palace, erected in the 3rd century AD. Diocletian was born in the nearby Roman settlement of Salona in AD 245 and achieved a brilliant career as a soldier, becoming emperor at 40. In 295, he commanded this vast palace to be built in his native Dalmatia, and upon completion, retired there. After his death, an octagonal mausoleum was constructed, which later became Split's magnificent cathedral. The palace, having developed into an urban centre by the 11th century, transformed under Venetian rule and later the Habsburgs. Modern-day historic Split is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 4 - Hvar Island

Hvar Island, Croatia: Known as the "sunniest island in the Adriatic," Hvar Island boasts an average of 2,724 hours of sunshine annually, enticing visitors with its guarantee of good weather. While it's rare, snow has been known to fall here, the last time being February 2012. Beyond the climate, Hvar offers historical architecture, lively nightlife, and beautiful Mediterranean landscapes.

Day 5 - Mljet Island and Dubrovnik

Mljet Island, Croatia: Mljet is one of Croatia's greenest islands, and much of it is covered by Mljet National Park. It's wonderfully tranquil, offering lush forests, clear lakes, and unique wildlife. A haven for those who appreciate nature and peace.

Dubrovnik, Croatia: Dubrovnik, with its commanding coastal location, is one of the world's most beautiful fortified cities. Its bustling old town, enclosed by towering stone walls, holds a dramatic history dating back to its founding in the 7th century. Dubrovnik thrived as a sophisticated independent republic, facing challenges such as an earthquake in 1667 and a heavy siege during the war for independence. Today, it stands beautifully restored and remains a testament to resilience and cultural heritage.

Day 6 - Tivat

Tivat, Montenegro: Nestled at the heart of the Adriatic coastline, Tivat is famed for its luxurious Porto Montenegro marina, offering stunning oceanfront views and high-end amenities. Steeped in history, the town combines vibrant culture with a serene waterfront, inviting guests to explore its picturesque landscapes and historical sites.

Day 7 - Otranto

Otranto, Italy: Situated at Italy's southern heel, Otranto flaunts a vivid landscape that highlights the exquisite beauty of Puglia. This historic city bears testimony to diverse influences, having been a Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Norman, and Spanish port before the Ottomans attempted conquest. Today, the remnants of forts and the town's cathedral tell tales of the past, offering a unique glimpse into Otranto’s rich cultural tapestry.

Day 8 - Taormina

Taormina, Italy: Despite being a tourist hotspot, the alluring medieval town of Taormina is undeniably beautiful, perched above the glorious Sicilian coastline. Its captivating views of the sea and Mt. Etna from cacti-dotted cliffs lend it a sense of timeless allure. With a history loved by writers like Goethe, Taormina offers quaint streets and interesting paths to explore, making a visit to nearby Castelmola highly recommended.
