Day 1 - Valparaiso

Valparaíso, Chile: Valparaíso's dramatic topography—45 cerros, or hills, overlooking the ocean—requires the use of winding pathways and wooden ascensores (funiculars) to navigate its steep grades. The hills are dotted with vibrant houses clad in corrugated metal, remnants from old shipping containers. Historically serving as Santiago's port, Valparaíso was once the busiest hub in South America before the opening of the Panama Canal.
